Overview

Microtubule inhibition refers to the disruption of microtubule dynamics, a critical process for cell division and intracellular transport. Microtubules are cytoskeletal structures composed of α/β-tubulin heterodimers that undergo continuous polymerization (growth) and depolymerization (shortening). Agents that inhibit microtubules—often called microtubule inhibitors or antimitotic agents—interfere with these dynamics, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, particularly in rapidly dividing cells such as cancer cells.
