Overview

Minor Histocompatibility Antigen 1 (HA-1) is a polymorphic peptide presented by MHC class I molecules, arising from the HMHA1 gene. HA-1 is selectively expressed on hematopoietic cells and some solid tumors. Mismatches between donor and recipient HA-1 alleles can lead to GVHD or graft-versus-leukemia effects after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. HA-1 is being explored as an immunotherapeutic target to enhance anti-leukemia effects and in vaccination strategies for metastatic cancers.
