Minor histocompatibility antigen HA-1 is a polymorphic peptide presented by MHC class I molecules, primarily HLA-A*02:01. It is derived from the HMHA1 gene and plays a crucial role in immune responses following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Mismatching for HA-1 can lead to graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), while also mediating beneficial graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effects. Due to its restricted expression on hematopoietic cells, HA-1 represents a promising target for immunotherapeutic strategies against hematologic malignancies such as acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).
