miR-101-2 precursor microRNA is a small, non-coding RNA located on chromosome 9p24.1; together with miR-101-1, it encodes miR-101, a highly conserved tumor suppressor implicated in multiple cancers and other diseases. It regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally by directing RISC-mediated mRNA silencing or degradation. miR-101-2 is involved in apoptosis, cell cycle, migration, and autophagy, and serves as a biomarker for cancer prognosis and patient stratification. Both its dysregulation and potential for therapeutic targeting are active areas of research.
Gene silencing (via RISC complex), mRNA degradation, and translational inhibition. Therapeutics would act by restoring or inhibiting miR-101 function, affecting its downstream targets such as EZH2, SOX9, and RAB5A.
