MIR1-1 host gene (MIR1-1HG) is a non-coding RNA gene and genomic locus encoding primary transcripts that are processed into muscle- and heart-specific microRNAs, specifically miR-1-1 and miR-133a-2. These microRNAs are pivotal regulators of cardiac and skeletal muscle differentiation, development, and pathology. The host gene itself does not encode a protein nor does it function as a classical therapeutic target, but its regulation is essential for proper expression of the embedded microRNAs. Disease relevance is indirect, reflecting the role of its microRNAs in cardiovascular and muscle biology. MIR1-1HG shares synonyms with related host genes, but should not be confused with functional proteins or direct drug targets.
