MIR4300 host gene (MIR4300HG) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that serves as the host transcript for the embedded microRNA gene MIR4300. It is located on chromosome 11q14.1 and produces a non-coding RNA that is highly expressed in tissues such as spinal cord, testis, bone, vertebral disc, cartilage, and to a lesser extent in brain and skeletal muscle[1][4][6]. A genome-wide association study identified a functional variant (rs35333564) within an enhancer region of MIR4300HG that links decreased expression of this gene to increased risk of curve progression in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS)[1][7]. The encoded miRNA (MIR4300) is believed to regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally, potentially influencing pathways related to apoptosis, bone development, and skeletal tissue homeostasis, but its exact molecular and cellular functions remain unclear. MIR4300HG itself is not a traditional receptor, enzyme, or transporter, and there are no approved drugs directly targeting MIR4300HG or its microRNA product[1][4].
