Overview

Misfolded lens proteins are aberrant forms of the structural proteins found in the eye lens, primarily crystallins. These misfolded proteins lose their native conformation, leading to aggregation and insolubility, which is a central event in cataract formation and other lens opacities. Therapeutic strategies are aimed at stabilizing native protein conformations, enhancing chaperone activity, preventing aggregate formation, or promoting disaggregation/removal.
