The mitochondrial calcium uptake 2 pseudogene (ENSG00000274212) is a genomic DNA segment in humans that is highly similar in sequence to the protein-coding gene mitochondrial calcium uptake 2 (MICU2), but it is classified as a pseudogene and does not encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes arise during evolution as "dead" copies of genes and often lack the capability to be transcribed or translated into a functional product. As such, this pseudogene is not considered a druggable or therapeutic target, nor is it involved in any known biological or pathological processes. In databases, it may sometimes appear in gene lists due to sequence similarity with the functional MICU2 gene, but it should not be confused with true molecular targets relevant to mitochondrial calcium regulation[7].
