Mitochondrial Carrier Protein (MCP)

Target
MCP
Molecular classification
Transporter, Solute Carrier
01

Overview

Mitochondrial carrier proteins are a family of transport proteins primarily located in the inner mitochondrial membrane. They are responsible for shuttling a wide variety of small molecules—including metabolites, nucleotides, amino acids, inorganic ions, and cofactors—between the mitochondrial matrix and the cytoplasm. These carriers play essential roles in cellular metabolism by regulating substrate availability for key biochemical pathways such as oxidative phosphorylation, the citric acid cycle, fatty acid oxidation, amino acid metabolism, and more.
