Mitochondrial complex I, also known as NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase or NADH dehydrogenase, is the first and largest enzyme complex of the mitochondrial electron transport chain. It catalyzes the transfer of electrons from NADH to ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10), coupled with proton translocation across the inner mitochondrial membrane. It plays a central role in cellular energy metabolism and its dysfunction is linked to various hereditary neurodegenerative diseases and metabolic disorders.
