Overview

Mitochondrial enolase superfamily member 1 (ENOSF1) is a mitochondrial enzyme that catalyzes the dehydration of L-fuconate to 2-keto-3-deoxy-L-fuconate as part of the L-fucose catabolic pathway[2][10]. In addition to its enzymatic role, some splice variants of ENOSF1 act as natural antisense RNAs that can downregulate thymidylate synthase (TYMS) mRNA, affecting sensitivity to chemotherapeutic agents such as 5-fluorouracil[2][3]. ENOSF1 is linked to certain diseases, including cancer and dyskeratosis congenita, and is classified as a member of the enolase superfamily of enzymes[2][10].
