Overview

Tim23B, formally known as mitochondrial import inner membrane translocase subunit Tim23B (TIMM23B), is a protein localized to the mitochondrial inner membrane and is predicted to participate in the translocation of transit peptide-containing precursor proteins across the inner membrane into the mitochondrial matrix[2][6][7]. It is believed to be a component of, or related to, the TIM23 complex, which functions in conjunction with other proteins to facilitate protein import into mitochondria, a process that is critical for mitochondrial biogenesis and function[1][3]. The gene TIMM23B is paralogous to TIMM23 and its exact physiological distinctions relative to the canonical Tim23 subunit remain incompletely characterized[2][6][7]. There is currently no evidence that TIMM23B serves as a direct therapeutic target, nor are there known drugs, disease associations, or biomarker roles described for this protein.
