Mitochondrial inner membrane organizing system 1 pseudogene (MINOS1P)

Target
MINOS1P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene

Overview

The mitochondrial inner membrane organizing system 1 pseudogene (ENSG00000271018) is a nonfunctional DNA sequence with high homology to the mitochondrial inner membrane organizing system 1 (MINOS1) gene.[2][4][5] Pseudogenes like this are incapable of producing a functional protein product due to disabling mutations or lack of regulatory elements, although they may sometimes be transcribed into non-coding RNA.[2][4] MINOS1, the parent gene, is a component of the MICOS or MINOS complex essential for maintaining mitochondrial inner membrane structure, but this pseudogene does not participate in those functions.[1][3][5] There is no evidence that the ENSG00000271018 pseudogene serves as a therapeutic target, participates in biological signaling, or is associated with any drugs or diseases.[5]
