Overview

MOTS-c is a 16-amino acid mitochondrial-derived peptide encoded by the MT-RNR1 gene. It plays a role in metabolic regulation by activating AMPK and regulating nuclear gene expression upon metabolic stress. It has implications for treating diabetes, obesity, and age-related diseases. It translocates to the nucleus to interact with transcription factors like NRF2/NFE2L2.
