Mitochondrial ribosomal protein L13 pseudogene (ENSG00000233990) is a processed, non-coding pseudogene derived from the functional mitochondrial ribosomal protein L13 (MRPL13) gene. It arises from retrotransposition or gene duplication events; such pseudogenes are generally transcriptionally silent and do not produce functional protein. The MRPL13 pseudogene is part of a broader group: in the human genome, at least 79 mitochondrial ribosomal proteins give rise to numerous pseudogenes, mainly via processed (retrotransposed) events. While very rarely a pseudogene can participate in regulation or be transcribed, there is no evidence that this particular pseudogene plays any known biological or clinical role. ENSG00000233990 is a mitochondrial ribosomal protein L13 pseudogene, not a functional or therapeutic target, and lacks known biological activity or disease association.
