Overview

Mitochondrial ribosomal protein L3 pseudogene 1 (MRPL3P1) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome that shows homology to the functional MRPL3 gene, which codes for a protein involved in mitochondrial protein synthesis as part of the mitoribosome[6]. Pseudogenes like MRPL3P1 typically do not encode functional proteins, and no evidence is available to suggest this pseudogene is transcribed or has any direct biological or disease-modifying role. The presence of MRPL3P1 does not constitute a therapeutic target, a receptor, or a functionally active molecule for pharmacological intervention[6][4]. In general, some pseudogenes may act as regulatory RNAs via microRNA decoy functions, but this is not specifically established for MRPL3P1[2]. There is nothing to suggest that MRPL3P1 is a misspelled gene symbol or incorrect in nomenclature, but it does not represent a bona fide druggable or functional target.

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

None with direct protein activity; pseudogenes may occasionally act as competitive endogenous RNAs/modulators of gene expression, but this is not established for MRPL3P1 specifically
04

Disease associations

None established for MRPL3P1. The functional MRPL3 gene is implicated in some diseases, but not the pseudogene
