Mitochondrial ribosomal protein L34 (MRPL34) is a structural component of the 39S large subunit of the mitochondrial ribosome. It is encoded by a nuclear gene and imported into mitochondria, where it participates in mitochondrial protein synthesis. MRPL34 belongs to the large ribosomal subunit protein bL34 family. It has been implicated in human diseases such as combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency 9 and Bardet-Biedl syndrome. Its primary function is as a structural constituent of the ribosome, essential for mitochondrial translation and energy production.
