Overview

MRPL37P1 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein L37 pseudogene 1) is a processed pseudogene found in humans. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences that resemble protein-coding genes but generally lack the ability to encode functional proteins due to disabling mutations or incomplete transcription/translation. MRPL37P1 derives from the mitochondrial ribosomal protein L37 gene (MRPL37), a gene involved in mitochondrial protein synthesis, but MRPL37P1 itself does not participate in this function. Most pseudogenes are transcriptionally silent, although a minority may exert regulatory effects at the RNA level (for example, through microRNA competition). At present, there is no published evidence that MRPL37P1 functions in regulation or disease, and it is not considered a drug target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or biomarker.
