Overview

Mitochondrial ribosomal protein L42 pseudogene 1 (MRPL42P1) is a processed pseudogene located in the human genome. Pseudogenes such as MRPL42P1 arise from duplication or retrotransposition events of functional genes, but they lack the capability to produce a functional protein due to mutations, truncations, or loss of regulatory elements. MRPL42P1 does not code for a functional mitochondrial ribosomal protein and has no known biological or therapeutic role. Its canonical parent gene, MRPL42, encodes a component of the mitochondrial ribosome important for mitochondrial protein synthesis, but the pseudogene itself is considered nonfunctional. There are no known aliases, disease associations, or drug interactions for MRPL42P1. It is not considered a valid therapeutic target.

02

Mechanism of action

None, as it is not a recognized drug target.

03

Biological functions

None established as a functional gene or protein. Pseudogenes, in general, may rarely influence gene regulation, but no specific function for MRPL42P1 has been reported.
04

Disease associations

None known. There is no evidence linking MRPL42P1 itself to disease; evidence and studies on related pseudogenes suggest regulatory roles in some cases, but not for MRPL42P1.
