Mitochondrial ribosomal protein L42 pseudogene 3 (MRPL42P3) is a human pseudogene derived from the gene encoding mitochondrial ribosomal protein L42, which participates in mitochondrial protein synthesis as part of the mitoribosome. Pseudogenes like MRPL42P3 arise from ancestral gene duplication or retrotransposition events and generally do not encode functional proteins. MRPL42P3 itself is located on one of several genomic loci containing pseudogenes for MRPL42 (chromosomes 4q, 6p, 6q, 7p, and 15q). Unlike some non-coding RNAs or transcribed pseudogenes with regulatory activity, there is no literature supporting any function, disease association, or targeting relevance for MRPL42P3.
