Overview

Mitochondrial ribosomal protein L50 pseudogene 4 (MRPL50P4) is a processed pseudogene located on human chromosome 10q23.1[6]. It is derived from the nuclear-encoded mitochondrial ribosomal protein L50 (MRPL50), which contributes to mitochondrial protein synthesis within the large (39S) mitoribosomal subunit[5]. Unlike the functional gene MRPL50, MRPL50P4 does not encode a functional protein and is not implicated directly in protein translation, disease mechanisms, or as a drug target. Although some pseudogenes have regulatory or disease associations, there is currently no evidence that MRPL50P4 plays a biological, diagnostic, or therapeutic role[1][6].\nIf you are interested in functional mitochondrial ribosomal proteins as therapeutic or biomarker targets, you should refer to the protein-coding parent gene, MRPL50[5].
