Mitochondrial ribosomal protein L57 pseudogene 6 (MRPL57P6) is a non-coding pseudogene derived from the gene encoding mitochondrial ribosomal protein L57. Pseudogenes such as MRPL57P6 are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are non-functional due to mutations or loss of regulatory elements preventing normal protein translation. While the protein-coding MRPL57 gene is involved in mitochondrial translation as part of the ribosomal large subunit, the MRPL57P6 pseudogene is neither translated into protein nor does it serve as a therapeutic target. Pseudogenes can sometimes influence gene expression through RNA-based regulatory mechanisms, but no such function has been described for MRPL57P6 specifically.
