Target intelligence / Profile preview
Mitochondrial ribosomal protein L57 pseudogene 7 (MRPL57P7) is a processed pseudogene by sequence similarity to mitochondrial ribosomal protein L57. Pseudogenes such as MRPL57P7 lack coding potential due to gene structure mutations and are not translated into proteins. MRPL57P7 is one of several pseudogenes related to MRPL57 found in the human genome. Unlike functional MRPL57, which is a nuclear-encoded protein essential for mitochondrial ribosome structure and function, MRPL57P7 does not contribute to mitochondrial protein synthesis or cellular processes. It has no established biological or disease implications and is not considered a therapeutic target. For research on mitochondrial ribosomal proteins as targets, focus should be on functional genes such as MRPL57, which participates in mitochondrial protein translation and may have roles in cancer and metabolic diseases as reviewed in recent literature. MRPL57 and its family members contribute to mitochondrial function but MRPL57P7 is not involved in these processes due to its pseudogene status. If the intention is to identify a proteinaceous drug target or biomarker, MRPL57P7 is not suitable and the focus should shift to functional, protein-coding members of the mitochondrial ribosomal protein family.
None (No known mechanism, as it does not encode a functional protein)
