Mitochondrial ribosomal protein L9 pseudogene 1 (MRPL9P1) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome that shares sequence homology with the protein-coding gene encoding mitochondrial ribosomal protein L9 (MRPL9). Pseudogenes arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and typically have lost their protein-coding potential due to accumulated mutations or lack of regulatory elements. MRPL9P1 does not encode a functional protein, and there is no evidence for direct biological function, disease involvement, or drug interactions. Some pseudogenes have been implicated in RNA-mediated regulatory roles, such as acting as microRNA decoys, but such functions have not been attributed to MRPL9P1.
