Overview

Mitochondrial ribosomal protein S15 pseudogene 1 (MRPS15P1) is a processed pseudogene located on human chromosome 15q33.33. It is a non-functional copy derived from the gene encoding mitochondrial ribosomal protein S15 (MRPS15). MRPS15P1 does not encode a functional protein, has no established biological or therapeutic role, and is not implicated in any disease or drug interaction pathways. Pseudogenes like MRPS15P1 are typically identified through sequence similarity with their parent genes but lack the capability to produce functional proteins due to mutations and truncations accumulated after retrotransposition. Note: MRPS15P1 should not be confused with Multidrug resistance protein 1 (MRP1/ABCC1), an ATP-binding cassette transporter that is a well-established therapeutic target in oncology and pharmacology. MRPS15P1 is unrelated to these mechanisms or targets.
