Mitochondrial ribosomal protein S17 pseudogene 5 (MRPS17P5) is a human processed pseudogene related to the gene encoding mitochondrial ribosomal protein S17, a component of the small mitochondrial ribosomal 28S subunit. MRPS17P5 itself does not encode a functional protein and is considered transcriptionally inactive by default, with no recognized biological function, disease associations, or drug interactions. While some pseudogenes can have regulatory RNA roles by acting as microRNA decoys or influencing expression of their parent genes, there is no established evidence that MRPS17P5 exhibits such functions. MRPS17P5 is thus not considered a therapeutic target. If you require a functional mitochondrial ribosomal protein target, refer to the canonical MRPS17 gene/protein, which is involved in mitochondrial translation and is structurally a constituent of the mitoribosome small 28S subunit. MRPS17P5, in contrast, is classified only as a pseudogene, not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other druggable target.
