Overview

Mitochondrial ribosomal protein S18A pseudogene 1 (MRPS18AP1) is a human processed pseudogene located on chromosome 3p21.31[8]. Unlike its parent gene (MRPS18A), which encodes a component of the mitochondrial ribosome small 28S subunit essential for mitochondrial protein synthesis[3][5], MRPS18AP1 does not produce a functional protein and is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or typical therapeutic target[1][8]. Processed pseudogenes like MRPS18AP1 may have regulatory roles at the RNA level, such as acting as microRNA decoys or modulating expression of parental genes, but for MRPS18AP1, no such role has been established in the literature[4][8]. Currently, MRPS18AP1 is considered a genomic pseudogene with no direct biological function or clinical relevance. Summary: - MRPS18AP1 is a pseudogene, not a protein-coding gene, and there is no evidence supporting its role as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug interaction partner. - There is no known biological or disease-associated function, except for theoretical non-coding RNA effects that are not established for MRPS18AP1. - The entry is incorrect as a target, as it does not meet the criteria for a therapeutic or functional molecular target.
