Mitochondrial ribosomal protein S18C (MRPS18C)

Mitochondrial ribosomal protein S18C (MRPS18C) is a nuclear-encoded protein that is a structural component of the mitochondrial small 28S ribosomal subunit. It belongs to the ribosomal protein S18P family and is crucial for protein synthesis within the mitochondrion. MRPS18C is one of three human mitochondrial S18 proteins, each distantly related to bacterial S18 proteins, and it supports the translation of mitochondrial-encoded proteins as part of the mitoribosome[1][2][6][8]. No direct evidence suggests it is a therapeutic target, nor are there known drugs targeting this protein. It is primarily a core housekeeping component in mitochondria and not usually considered a drug target in biomedical research.
