MRPS18CP7, also known as mitochondrial ribosomal protein S18C pseudogene 7, is a human pseudogene corresponding to the MRPS18C gene, which normally encodes a member of the mitochondrial ribosomal protein S18 family. Unlike coding genes, pseudogenes are typically non-functional sequences of genomic DNA that arise from formerly functional genes but have lost their protein-coding ability or are otherwise no longer expressed in the cell[4][5][6]. MRPS18CP7 is not thought to encode any functional protein and, therefore, is not considered a molecular target for therapeutic intervention.
