Overview

Mitochondrial ribosomal protein S22 pseudogene 1 (MRPS22P1) is a pseudogene found on human chromosome Xq21.31[4]. Unlike its parent gene MRPS22, which encodes a mitochondrial ribosomal protein essential for mitochondrial translation and cellular energy production, the MRPS22P1 locus does not encode a protein and has no known biological or pathological function[1][4]. Pseudogenes are generally regarded as non-functional segments of DNA, although, in rare cases, some pseudogenes may participate in gene regulation through non-coding RNA mechanisms (such as acting as miRNA decoys)[2]; however, there is no evidence that MRPS22P1 possesses such activity.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable. No drugs target MRPS22P1, and no mechanism of drug action is described for pseudogenes like MRPS22P1[1][4].
