MRPS35P2 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein S35 pseudogene 2) is a human pseudogene that represents a non-functional copy of the mitochondrial ribosomal protein S35 (MRPS35) gene[4][5]. While the functional MRPS35 protein plays a role in the mitochondrial ribosome's small 28S subunit (involved in mitochondrial protein synthesis), MRPS35P2 itself does not encode an active protein and does not participate in these biological processes[4][7][10]. Pseudogenes like MRPS35P2 are generally recognized in genome annotations but are not considered receptors, enzymes, or other types of therapeutic targets; their main relevance is for genetic and evolutionary studies or, occasionally, as regulators at the RNA level in rare cases, but there is no specific evidence for such a function for MRPS35P2[4][5][8].
