Mitochondrial ribosomal protein S6 pseudogene 1 (MRPS6P1, also referred to as MRPS6P3) is a processed pseudogene located in the human genome; it is non-coding and does not produce a functional protein. It is related to the functional MRPS6 gene, which encodes a component of the mitochondrial ribosome important for mitochondrial protein synthesis[5][1][8]. Pseudogenes like MRPS6P1 usually arise from the duplication or retrotransposition of their parental gene but accumulate mutations that render them non-functional as a protein-coding gene[1][6][8]. There is no evidence that MRPS6P1 functions as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or therapeutic target, nor is there indication it serves as a biomarker, interacts with drugs, or is directly involved in disease processes[1][5][8]. Its main scientific importance is as a genomic feature reflecting gene duplication events and retrotransposon activity[1][8]. Occasionally pseudogenes may regulate related gene expression (e.g., as competitive endogenous RNA), but no such regulatory function has been reported for MRPS6P1[2].
