Target intelligence / Profile preview
Mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) is a key protein encoded by the nuclear TFAM gene. It is an essential component of mitochondrial nucleoids and plays a central role in the maintenance, transcription, and replication of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). Altered levels or function of TFAM are linked with neurodegenerative diseases and mutations can lead directly to syndromes involving defective oxidative phosphorylation.
