Mitochondrial translational initiation factor 2 pseudogene 1 (MTIF2P1) is a human genomic locus classified as a pseudogene and related to the functional MTIF2 gene, which encodes a protein essential for initiation of mitochondrial translation[1][8][10]. The MTIF2P1 locus does not produce a functional protein product, and pseudogenes are generally considered non-functional genomic elements, typically arising from duplication or mutation of protein-coding genes[8]. MTIF2P1 has been annotated in human genomic studies and is mapped to chromosome 1[8]. Unlike its parental gene MTIF2, which participates in mitochondrial protein synthesis, MTIF2P1 does not have a known function, disease association, nor does it serve as a drug target or biomarker[1][8][10]. The entry is sometimes confused with the functional MTIF2 gene, a viable therapeutic target in mitochondrial biology[1][5].
