Overview

MT-ATP6 pseudogene 25 (MTATP6P25) is a nuclear-encoded non-functional genomic sequence that resembles the mitochondrial gene MT-ATP6. Unlike the functional mitochondrial gene MT-ATP6, which codes for a key subunit ("a" subunit) of the F_o complex of mitochondrial ATP synthase (Complex V) and plays an essential role in ATP production and cellular energy metabolism[1][3][5][7][8][9], MTATP6P25 does not code for any protein or contribute to mitochondrial function. There is no evidence in the scientific or clinical literature that MTATP6P25 is expressed, functional, or plays a role in human physiology or disease. Pseudogenes such as this often arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and are typically transcriptionally inactive.

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

None (as a pseudogene, MTATP6P25 has no known biological function)
04

Disease associations

None (pseudogenes are not generally implicated in disease directly, unless exceptionally serving as regulatory RNAs, for which there is no evidence here)
05

Safety considerations

None reported (as this is not a therapeutic or biological target)
06

Interacting drugs

None (no drugs interact with this pseudogene, as it does not encode a functional protein)
