MT-ATP6 pseudogene 7 (MTATP6P7) is a noncoding pseudogene related by sequence similarity to the mitochondrial gene MT-ATP6. Unlike the canonical MT-ATP6 gene, which encodes a protein subunit of the mitochondrial ATP synthase complex responsible for cellular ATP synthesis, MTATP6P7 is not known to encode a functional protein and is not involved in any characterized biological processes or human diseases. As a pseudogene, it is not considered a drug target, biomarker, or a source of risk for therapeutic intervention[6]. While the MT-ATP6 gene is a vital mitochondrial gene implicated in mitochondrial diseases and is a proven molecular target, its pseudogene MTATP6P7 does not share these functional roles and is not considered a target of pharmacological interest[6].
