Overview

Mitochondrially encoded cytochrome b pseudogene 19 (MTCYBP19) is a non-protein-coding sequence in the human genome classified as a *pseudogene* of the MT-CYB gene[6]. Unlike the canonical MT-CYB gene, which encodes cytochrome b and is critical for mitochondrial energy production and disease relevance[1][3][7], MTCYBP19 does not code for a functional protein and does not play a role in mitochondrial electron transport or related diseases. There are no established biological functions, disease associations, drug interactions, or biomarkers related to MTCYBP19. It should not be confused with MT-CYB, which is a key mitochondrial enzyme and sometimes a clinical or research target.
