Mitochondrially encoded cytochrome b pseudogene 5 (MTCYBP5) is a non-coding pseudogene related to the MT-CYB gene, which normally encodes cytochrome b, a core subunit of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex III[1][2][4]. Unlike its parent gene, MTCYBP5 does not encode a functional protein and does not participate in mitochondrial electron transport or ATP synthesis. There is no evidence it plays a role in disease, therapy, or cellular signaling.
