Target intelligence / Profile preview
MTCO2P16 is a human pseudogene, annotated as "mitochondrially encoded cytochrome c oxidase II pseudogene 16." Pseudogenes are DNA sequences resembling genes but are non-functional due to accumulated mutations and lack the capacity to code for functional proteins. MTCO2P16 is related by sequence to the MT-CO2 gene, which encodes subunit II of cytochrome c oxidase, a key enzyme in the mitochondrial electron transport chain. However, MTCO2P16 itself does not produce an active protein and is not involved in physiological processes or disease mechanisms[2][4][5].
