Mitochondrially encoded cytochrome c oxidase II pseudogene 7 (MTCO2P7) is a nuclear pseudogene representing a nonfunctional, duplicated copy of the gene for cytochrome c oxidase subunit II (MT-CO2), which in its canonical form is encoded in mitochondrial DNA and plays a central role in electron transport and cellular respiration. MTCO2P7, however, is a noncoding genomic element classified as a pseudogene and does not contribute to mitochondrial function, protein expression, or human disease. It has no known active protein product, biological role, or therapeutic relevance. It is an inactive genomic sequence derived from the functional MT-CO2 gene, lacking protein-coding potential, biological function, or relevance as a therapeutic target.
