Mitochondrially encoded cytochrome c oxidase III pseudogene 12 (MTCO3P12) is a processed pseudogene located on human chromosome 1. It is derived from the mitochondrial MT-CO3 gene, which encodes cytochrome c oxidase subunit III, a critical component of the respiratory chain complex IV in mitochondria. However, as a pseudogene, MTCO3P12 does not encode a functional protein and does not have demonstrated biological function or disease association. It is annotated in genomic databases but is not a therapeutic or diagnostic target[2][3][5][6][8].
