Mitochondrially encoded cytochrome c oxidase III pseudogene 18 (MTCO3P18) is a human pseudogene located at chromosomal position 2q21.1[5]. This gene is designated as a pseudogene of MT-CO3, which encodes cytochrome c oxidase subunit III, a component of the mitochondrial respiratory complex IV; however, MTCO3P18 itself does not code for a functional protein[5][3]. Pseudogenes are generally non-functional copies or fragments of genes. MTCO3P18 has no established biological function, molecular activity, or known involvement in disease, drug interaction, or biomarker utility. It is maintained in genomic databases but does not have a reported functional or therapeutic role[5][3].
