MTCO3P24 is a human gene classified as an unprocessed pseudogene, named mitochondrially encoded cytochrome c oxidase III pseudogene 24. It is located on chromosome 16 and does not have protein-coding potential. MTCO3P24 is a nuclear pseudogene related by sequence to the mitochondrial gene MT-CO3 (which encodes cytochrome c oxidase subunit III), but does not produce a functional protein. There is no evidence it serves as a drug target, or that it has any direct biological function or disease association in humans. Its presence reflects the evolutionary history of sequence duplication or transfer between mitochondria and the nuclear genome, a common feature for many pseudogenes[3][6].
