MT-ND2 pseudogene 26 (MTND2P26) is a processed pseudogene located on chromosome 11q22.3 that shares sequence similarity with the mitochondrial gene MT-ND2, which encodes a subunit of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex I (NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase). Unlike the functional MT-ND2 gene, this pseudogene does not produce a functional protein and has no known biological role. There is no evidence it is involved in human diseases or targeted therapeutically. MTND2P26 should not be confused with the functional mitochondrial ND2 gene, which is involved in electron transport and bioenergetics. Only the active ND2 gene is relevant for mitochondrial function and disease; the pseudogene is non-functional and thus not considered a target for therapy or drug development.
