Overview

MTND2P38 is a pseudogene located on human chromosome 8 (8q11.1). Pseudogenes are DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but have lost their protein-coding ability through mutations or deletions; they are often evolutionary remnants and generally do not produce functional proteins. MTND2P38 shares sequence homology with the mitochondrial gene MT-ND2, which encodes a subunit of NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase (Complex I) of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. Unlike the functional ND2 gene, MTND2P38 does not participate in biological processes, is not implicated in disease, and is not a therapeutic target or druggable entity. If your intent was to find a therapeutic target for mitochondrial NADH dehydrogenase activity, refer to the functional mitochondrial gene MT-ND2 instead. MTND2P38 should not be considered a valid drug target.
