MTND5P5 is a human pseudogene corresponding to the mitochondrial ND5 gene, which encodes a subunit of NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase (Complex I) in the mitochondrial electron transport chain. Pseudogenes like MTND5P5 typically arise from duplication events or retrotransposition and do not produce functional protein products. Unlike its parent gene MT-ND5, which plays a critical role in mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation and is implicated in several mitochondrial diseases, MTND5P5 does not have a known biological activity, disease association, or potential as a therapeutic target[6].
