Like other pseudogenes, it may occasionally be transcribed as non-coding RNA and participate in cellular regulatory networks by acting as a ceRNA and interacting with microRNAs, potentially influencing the expression of related genes including MFN1[3][5]. However, pseudogenes are not considered direct molecular targets for drugs or therapies, and the mitofusin 1 pseudogene should not be confused with the functional MFN1 protein, which plays an essential role in mitochondrial fusion and disease when mutated[2][8].
