Mitogen-activated protein kinase 11 (MAPK11) is a serine/threonine kinase and a member of the MAP kinase family, specifically classified as one of the four p38 MAPKs in humans. It acts as an essential component of the MAP kinase signal transduction pathway, serving as an integration point for multiple biochemical signals and participating in various cellular processes. It plays a critical role in cellular responses to extracellular stimuli such as pro-inflammatory cytokines or physical stress, leading to direct activation of transcription factors and other downstream targets. Its functions are largely redundant with those of another p38 isoform, MAPK14.
