Overview

Mitogen-activated protein kinase 6 pseudogene 4 (MAPK6P4 or Erk3ps4) is a human pseudogene derived from the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) family. Pseudogenes like MAPK6P4 are often considered non-functional relics of protein-coding genes, but emerging research indicates that some pseudogenes' transcripts may have functional regulatory roles, such as acting as decoys for microRNAs or producing regulatory noncoding RNAs[3]. There is evidence that a transcript or peptide from MAPK6P4 can promote vasculogenic mimicry in glioblastoma, suggesting a possible biological relevance beyond its annotated pseudogene status[1]. However, its classification remains that of a pseudogene, and it is not recognized as a conventional therapeutic target. Key points: - MAPK6P4 is primarily classified as a pseudogene, not a typical drug target. - Evidence for a functional role is limited and currently restricted to possible regulatory or pathological functions in cancer. - No drugs or therapeutic interventions currently target this gene or its potential products.
