MAPK6P5 (Mitogen-activated protein kinase 6 pseudogene 5) is a pseudogene: a genomic DNA sequence similar to the functional MAPK6 gene, but lacking the ability to encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes arise by duplication or retrotransposition of functional genes but accumulate mutations that render them non-functional as proteins. While some pseudogenes have regulatory roles—such as acting as decoys for microRNAs or regulators of gene expression—there is currently no evidence that MAPK6P5 encodes a functional protein, serves as a major therapeutic target, or directly contributes to disease pathology. Therefore, this target should not be considered a canonical drug target or receptor.
